If someone had mentioned street luge to me 12 months ago, I wouldn't have had the foggiest idea what they were talking about…. But then I met Nic and he introduced me to this unusual topsy turvy world where people laid on these weird looking skateboards and rolled down massive hills at ridiculous speeds! To be honest I thought they had all lost their minds, but I didn't tell them that. I continued to go along to watch Nic and others, and although I never thought it was for me, I found it strangely interesting.
The more I was around it the more I wanted to try it. Eventually I worked up the courage and gave into Nics persistent attempts to try and get me to ride one of his boards. So in April 2010 Nic took me to a little car park which barely had a incline, I timidly got on one of his board and promptly proceeded to forget my left from my right, get freaked out at going 10km/hr and be completely upstaged by my 10 year old daughter.
Although my 1st attempt wasn't great, it was all it took to get me hooked. I started 'borrowing' Nics boards when he was at work so I could go riding on my own, I rode footpaths, car parks, driveways, and anywhere I could. Eventually Nic got tired of me borrowing his boards, so he got me a board of my own. I rode my 1st REAL hill in June 2010, which has given me more confidence and convinced me to race at the Australian titles in October and at Newtons in November 2010.
